Mrs. John Alberts Died Suddenly Following Stroke

Mrs. John Alberts died at her home about midnight Saturday following a stroke which she suffered at eight o'clock in the evening. She did not regain consciousness before her death and she had been ;ill only a few minutes before she was stricken. Her death came as a great shock to her family and friends because she had apparently been well all day. Mr. and Mrs. Alberts, their daughter, Mrs. James Kemmer and children of Los Angeles, Calif., who are visiting here had returned to Pocahontas at 5:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon after attending a family gathering in the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Don Bailey in Fonda. The occasion was the wedding anniversary of the Baileys and also the birthday of Mrs. Bailey.

Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home and at 2:00 o'clock in the Presbyterian church. Rev. G. F. Butler of Sanborn, a former pastor of the church, will officiate and burial will be in Summit Hill cemetery. The choir will furnish the music and Mrs. G. J. Freeburg will sing a hymn. Pallbearers will be Jack Bouma, Mike Naughton, Joe Kemmer, A. C. Carmichael, Geo. Logan and G. A. Pattee.

Elizabeth Wolfe Alberts was the daughter of Maurice and Ellen Wolfe and she was born Aug. 23, 1876, at Ottawa, LaSalle Co., Ill. When she was two years of age she came with her parents to Dike, Grundy county, Iowa, where they lived several years before coming to Pocahontas county where she grew to womanhood.

On April 9, 1894, she was united in marriage at Pocahontas with John Alberts and they established their home on a farm near Pocahontas until March 2, 1905, when they moved to the farm they purchased in Dover township, six miles north of Fonda. They retired in March 1924 and moved to their present home in Pocahontas. They observed their golden wedding anniversary April 19, 1944. She attended the Presbyterian church ans was am ember of the Presbyterian Women.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Alberts is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Don Bailey of Fonda and Mrs. James Kemmer of Los Angeles, Calif., three grandchildren, Jack and Frances Marie Kemmer of Los Angeles and Mrs. Wayne Rowland of Fonda and one great grandchild, Frances Lucille Roland of Fonda. She also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Doyle of Goldfield and Mrs. Julia Henneberry of Wichita Falls, Texas. One daughter, Mrs. Jack Fitzgerald, died several years ago.

Those from a distance attending the services are Mrs. Julia Henneberry of Wichita Falls, Texas, James Kemmer, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Edith Sundbig and Mrs. Bertha Dickerson of Sioux Falls, S. Dark.; H. C. Goodyear and Mrs. Gene Mullen of Waterloo; Wm Goodyear of Walnut and Howard Goodyear of Iowa City.
