Ollie "Shorty" Barnes, 81, died June 24, 1969 at the Pemiscot County Hospital in Hayti. He was a retired farmer, a Mason, and a member of the Mt. Zion Cemetery board.
He was the son of the late George and Josephine Barnes and he was united in marriage to Ida Lester June 12, 1932.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ida Barnes of Steele; four sons, Roy, Cecil, Chester and Everett Barnes, all of Steele; two daughters, Mrs. Audrey Turner of Spring Lake, Mich., and Mrs. Dorothy Corbin of Caruthersville; one step- daughter Mrs. Madoline Biggs of Fenton; one brother Omer Barnes of Tulsa; one sister Mrs. Maude Holland of Grand Haven, Mich.; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 26, 1969 at 4:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Steele with Mr. Judson Woodbridge officiating.
Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
Pallbearers were Reginald Watkins, Jerry Sinko, Hoye Hillhouse, Buck Ballentine, Barry Ray, and Lowell German.
