Alton Newspapers Hayner Library Newspaper Archive, 1918 Nov 21 Funeral Services at Railway Station, Funeral services for Philip Reno of 414 Shield Street were held this morning at Rockbridge, Illinois. The body was taken to Rockbridge on the morning Burlington train. After the train had pulled out of the station the funeral services were conducted on the station platform. This unusual procedure was occasioned by the fact that Reno's death occurred from influenza and pneumonia and the family did not care to take the body to either of the two churches in the village. The open air funeral was therefore resolved upon. Reno formerly lived at Rockbridge and the arrival of the train was greeted by a large number of his former friends and neighbors. Rev W. M. Rhodes of Upper Alton accompanied the funeral party and officiated. The burial was in the Greene Cemetery.
