Felix C. Claeys, 99, a resident of Long Grove, died Monday, January 31, 2011 at his residence.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 5th , 2011 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 16550 290th Street, Long Grove. Burial will be in the St. Ann's Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, February 4th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church where a prayer service will be offered at 4:00 p.m. to begin visitation. Additional visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Felix Charles Claeys was born January 15, 1912 in Scott County, Iowa, a son of Julius and Augusta (Forret) Claeys. He was united in marriage to Rita DeSchepper on October 27, 1943 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Long Grove.
Felix farmed all his life in Long Grove. He planted all his own corn and beans until he was 92 years old. His memberships include St. Ann's Catholic Church, Charter member of Long Grove Sportsmen Club, Farm Bureau, and the Plus 60 Club. He dug the graves by hand for over 60 years at St. Ann's Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Ann's Building Fund or St. Ann's Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Rita, Long Grove, sons, Francis J. Claeys, Long Grove, and Raymond M. Claeys, Eldridge; daughters, Mary Ann (David) Schanze, Grand Mound, and Madonna M. (Richard) Hughes, DeWitt; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a brother, Reme Claeys, Okemos, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Elizabeth Henningsen, Angela Kruse and Lillian Peters and brothers, Frank and Louis Claeys. May they rest in peace.
