Louis was the son of Julius Claeys and Augusta Forret both born at Adegem, Belgium. Julius and his wife arrived in 1907 in Iowa. Louis was the 4th child of 8.
Louis served in the 135th Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division in Northern Africa.
