Davenport - Services for Frank J. Claeys, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, with military services conducted by American Legion Post 353, Dixon, Iowa. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service recited at 7 p.m.

Mr. Claeys died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Henderson, Nev., after a brief illness.

He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years. He retired in 1973.

He was born Oct. 29, 1916, in McCausland, Iowa, to Julius and Agusta (Forret) Claeys. He married Viola Moldenschardt on June 21, 1947, in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Long Grove, Iowa.

He was an Army veterans of World War II. He served as staff sergeant with the 34th Infantry Division. He received the European Campaign Theater Ribbon and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Mr. Claeys was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church; a former member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport; and a life member of Dixon American Legion Post 353. He also was a member of Moose, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, American Association of Retired Persons, East End Club, Moline, and Quad-City Times Plus 60 Club. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren immensely. His hobbies included golfing and ballroom dancing. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church or Genesis Medical Center Hospice.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Pamela Janoski, Davenport; a daughter and son-in-law, Lu Ann and Gary Christenson, Davenport; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Kathy Claeys, Henderson, Nev., and Mark and Mary Jolene Claeys, Evans, Ga.; grandchildren, Jason, Bryan, Ashley, Adam, Sarah, Angela, Kelli, Katie, Erin, Ben and Mara; a sister, Lillian Peters, Long Grove; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Felix and Rita Claeys, Long Grove, and Reme and Verba Claeys, Okimos, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lewis; and sisters, Elizabeth Henningsen and Angela Kruse, who died in August of this year.
