Funeral held for Joseph M. Smith, Draper resident.

Funeral services for Joseph M. Smith, age 92, beloved patriarch of Mt. Jordan Stake, who died at his home following a lingering illness, were conducted Feb 24 at 1:30 p.m. at Draper Second Ward chapel, with Bishop Otis A. Pierce in charge. Speakers who eulogized the outstanding character and great service of Patriarch Smith included, O.D. Ballard, James Gordon, and Stanley A. Rasmussen, with closing remarks by Bishop Pierce. Resolutions representing the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, was given by Mrs. Elva Bowen.

Interment was in Draper cemetery under direction of C. I. Goff and Son mortuary. The dedication of the grave was by William D. Kuhre, Patriarch of Mt. Jordan Stake.

Patriarch Smith, a son of Lauritz and Mary Mickelsen Smith was born Feb. 1, 1856 at Draper and resided in the Draper community during his entire life. He had been an outstanding worker in the church during his entire life and had served as a Patriarch of Mt. Jordan stake for more than 24 years. He married Celestia Ann Brown Jan. 19,1879 in the Old Endowment house. Mrs. Smith died in April 1914. He was married to Anna Larsen Sept. 30, 1922 in the Salt Lake Temple. He is survived by his widow and 13 sons and daughters, 64 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren. Also five half brothers and four half sisters.

I remember my Grandpa Smith. I was not quite 5 when he passed away, but he lived next door and I always remember him sitting in his chair on the lawn and waving as I would pass by. I wish I had more memories of him, but I was just too young. REST IN SWEET ETERNAL PEACE MY DEAR GRANDFATHER.
