George Washington Albaugh was born June 16, 1838, in Woodsboro District, Frederick County, Maryland, the son of John W. and Elizabeth Ann Hyder Albaugh. On October 26, 1865, he married in Frederick County to Sarah Jane Valentine, daughter of William and Lydia Mehring Valentine. They were the parents of 9 children: Harvey C., John William, Etta M., Bertha F., Harry Vinson, Rose Ellen, Doran Edwin, Margie A. and George L. Albaugh. George passed away January 5, 1918, in Detour, Carroll County, Maryland, and was buried on the 8th in Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery, Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, Maryland.

He was aged 79 years, 6 months and 19 days. His wife died several years ago. Three sons and three daughters survive him: William, Harry and Doran Albaugh; Mrs. G. S. J. Fox, of Detour; Mrs. Charles Fogle, of Woodsboro; Mrs. Russell Dorsey, of Motter's Station. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W. O. Ebach, his pastor, conducting the services. Interment was made in Rocky Ridge Lutheran Church Cemetery."
