Aaron J. Fife was born Dec. 30, 1925, to Aaron C. and Jessie Fife in Lewisville, Idaho. He was the oldest of 11 children. He passed away at home in Rigby on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at the age of 86, after a series of strokes.

Aaron attended school in Lewisville until his junior year. He then went to Seattle to work for Boeing Aircraft. After four months, his father became ill and Aaron returned home to help with the family farm. The next fall, he moved to Rigby and finished school there. While attending school, he participated in band, a radio class, and received awards in penmanship.

In June 1944, he enlisted in the Navy. He finished sixth out 50,000 men on a two-mile cross-country course at Farragut Naval Training Station and qualified as a marksman. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and was honorably discharged in June 1946.

He worked for many years in mechanical and farm-related jobs. He worked at the Arco Site as a mail and records supervisor for 18 years.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a faithful home teacher. He loved to serve in the temple. He and his wife, Cecelia, were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on Aug. 20, 1969.

He could make anything grow. He had a real gift for nurturing both plants and animals. In 1963, he received the Grassman of the Year award. His greatest joy was his family. He loved the outdoors and found pleasure in hunting and fishing. He loved to paint and draw. He participated in the Rigby Art Guild and greatly enjoyed his associations there.

Aaron was never one to sit back and watch things happen. He took an active part in civic affairs. If he thought something was wrong, he got up and did something about it. He was continually writing letters to his civic leaders and helped with the organization and fundraising to build the Senior Citizens Center in Rigby.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cecelia Moser Fife; eight siblings, Glenda Kidwell, DuWayne (Dina) Fife, Kenneth (Dorothy) Fife, Roy (Helen) Fife, Darwin (Marilyn) Fife, Ronald (Sheila) Fife, Paul (Cheryl) Fife and Karen (Tom) Jenson; four daughters, Evelyn (Harold) Morese of Prineville, Ore., Christine Close of Ogden, Utah, Melody Averett of St. George, Utah, and Lori (Deron) Ricks of Rigby; one son, Michael (Amanda) Fife of Nampa; a stepdaughter, Barbara Smith; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron C. and Jessie Fife; two sisters, ElDora Miller and Colleen Gneiting; three of his children, Brett, Sharon and Alan; and one stepson, Larry.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, in the Rigby Stake Center, 258 W. First South. The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday, both at the stake center. Burial will be at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
