Albert "DuWayne" Fife, 86, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Nov. 7, 2017, in St. George, Utah.

DuWayne was born in Lewisville, Idaho, on Feb. 5, 1931, to Aaron and Jessie Fife. Aaron and Jessie purchased a 56-acre farm in Menan for $5,500. DuWayne learned the value of hard work at an early age working on the farm. He began picking potatoes in the first grade, earning $6.31 the first year. He was topping beets at the age of 10. He said he later enjoyed driving truck in the potato and hay fields. He bought his first car at the age of 16, a 1930 4dr Model A Ford, for $125.

He enlisted in the Air Force in his senior year of high school, but his service was cut short when his father required surgery, and DuWayne was needed to help work the family farm. He received an honorable discharge and returned home, graduating from Midway High in 1949.

He met his high school sweetheart, Lida Browning, at Midway High School, where she was a freshman, and he was a junior. When he joined the Air Force, she wrote him every day for three months while he attended basic training. They were married June 1, 1950, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they raised eight children in the Idaho Falls area. In the early years of their marriage, DuWayne worked at many different trades to support the family. In 1952, he worked on the labor crew and also driving a concrete truck for the contractor constructing the Palisades Dam. He was proud to say he had helped build the dam. From 1965 to 1985, he worked for the Idaho Falls Fire Department as an alarm operator, intensive care paramedic and driver. He retired from the fire department in 1985.

After a long illness, Lida passed away in August 1999. DuWayne married Florence Johnson in June 2001. That marriage was later annulled. He married Virginia Turley in February 2006. She passed away in February 2008. He married Dina Oliveira in October 2008 in the St. George Temple. She loved DuWayne dearly, referring to her care for him through his declining years as her "mission."

He is survived by his fourth wife, Dina; seven of his eight children, Karac Bronyraur, St. George, Utah; Lyn Hansen, Richland, Washington; Patti Guymon (Ron), Idaho Falls, Idaho; Shannon Ferguson (Chris), Pleasant View, Utah; Kelly Fife (Saima), Mesquite, Nevada; Brenda Cox (Tad), Salt Lake; and Lee Fife (Cheryl), Twin Falls; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and siblings, Glenda, Darwin, Ronald, Paul and Karen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lida; his wife, Virginia; his oldest son, Randy; his parents; and siblings, Aaron, Colleen, Eldora, Kenneth and Roy.

Graveside services will be held for family and friends at Fielding Memorial Cemetery in Idaho Falls on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m.
