Charles went by several names: Dick Tipton, Richard Tipton and Charles Edward Tipton. He was the 9th child of James A. Tipton & Louisa Frances Rankin. He married Charlotte "Lottie" Kearns on Dec 25, 1890 in Lyons TWP/Whiting, Monona CO., Iowa. Charles & Charlotte had 8 children. One of his children, Maynard Tipton died as a baby in 1896.

He lived on Flower's Island and was a farmer. Before he died, he became overheated after working in the fields all day and suffered a stroke. He died in the Picotte Memorial Hospital in Winnebago, Nebraska of a cerebral hemorrhage.
