Elizabeth L. Teal, 103, of Johnstown, fulfilled her journey to be with the Lord on May 26, 2012.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 1, 2012, at United Methodist Church of Johnstown, with Rev. Peter Freytag officiating. A private burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Greeley.

Mrs. Teal was born Sept. 28, 1908, in Walla Walla, Washington, to Henry and Catherine Lesser. Her family migrated to Colorado when she was a teenager, and farmed the land where the Rolling Hills Ranch subdivision now stands. She married James P. Teal on Sept. 1, 1927, in Johnstown, where she lived for more than 80 years.

Elizabeth was a volunteer in the neighboring communities for more than 80 years. She recalled as a young girl, her Mother would send her to help the neighbors, and would always tell her "never take money for things you do to help others". Perhaps this was her training for a lifetime of community service. She began her volunteer career with the Red Cross, providing disaster relief during the 1928 Tornado. She also worked for the Civil Defense Team during WWII. For 30 years, she provided transportation service for the Windsor Health Care Facility, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (R.S.V.P.), and Windsor Senior Center, providing over 15,000 hours of volunteer service. In 1952 she became the first Volunteer for the North Colorado Medical Center (NCMC), Greeley. In 1953, she became an official Gray Lady Volunteer, her original Gray Lady uniform is on display at NCMC, where she volunteered for 50 years. Elizabeth would take time to visit patients to say "hello", or to hold their hand and say a prayer. She is a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star, and State Grand Worthy Matron, and received the Rose Medallion, the organization's most prestigious award.

Elizabeth was a long time member of the United Methodist Church of Johnstown, where she taught Sunday school for 20 years. She was an active member of the Johnstown Women's Club and Historical Society. In 2000, she was awarded "Channel7 Everyday Hero" by Mitch Jelniker. In 2002, she was awarded the "President's call to Service Award" in recognition of her years of volunteer service.

Elizabeth's interests included creating porcelain dolls, ceramic vases, crocheting, knitting, sewing, painting, gardening, but most of all, helping others.

Elizabeth is survived by her Son, James Allen Teal of Fulton, Texas, Daughter-in-Law, Dora Mae Teal of Fort Collins, 9 Grand Children (Terry Teal, Greg Teal, Steven Teal, Mike Aab, Gayla Leary O'Fallon, Kevin Leary, Kim Leary Ploughe, Marion Leary Pink, Barb Leary Purtell, 22 Great Grand Children, and 22 Great-Great Grand Children.

She is preceded in death by Husband James P. Teal, Daughter Shirley May Leary, and Grand Daughter Jackie Leary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Johnstown in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO 80631. Friends may view the online obituary, sign the guest book & send condolences at www.allnutt.com
