Bill was the seventh child of David Q. Hanes and Nancy C. Moore. He married Lillian B. Miller, a daughter of Roy and Clara Miller. Bill and Lil were wed on October 12, 1934 in Papineau (Iroquois County), Illinois. They had seven children; four sons and three daughters.
