Don or Johnny was the fifth child of David Q. Hanes and Nancy "Nelle" Moore. He married Marie Bertha Schoen on November 27, 1926 in Chicago (Cook County), Illinois. They had five children; four sons and one daughter. Don worked as an electrical maintenance man for Inland Steel Container Company, out of Chicago (Cook County), Illinois. He retired in 1967, that is when he and Marie moved to Lenroot, Wisconsin.

SCHOOL RECORDS: Hilside School; Springbrook, Wisconsin. Excerpt, "... Hillside School was located north of Springbrook, Washburn Co., WI, about halfway between Gull Lake and Hay Lake. In 1916 - 1917 the teacher at this school was Susie C. THIBEDEAU, and the school officers were: Mrs. Mary LEUTHNER, clerk; Mathias DENNINGER, Director and Mrs. Edith PARKER, treasurer.
