James was born Nov. 5, 1926, in Camp Springs, to Lacy Homer and Delia Wilson Kite. James loved to rodeo in his younger years before joining the Navy where he served on the Flagship USS Chicago. After his honorable discharge, he became a cattle rancher, and later an industrial engineer at Lockheed.
