Augustus Hugh Collins 91, died unexpectedly Thursday June 28, 2012 at Marion Medical Center. He had been a resident of Marion Nursing Facility for several years.
Mr. Collins was born and raised in the Gapway Community, a son of the late H. Wade Collins, Sr. and Mabeth Williamson Collins. He and one sister, Mamie Alice Caskey of Lancaster, S.C. were the remaining survivors of 10 children. He was married to Mildred Poston Collins who preceded him in death. He married again to Maggie Cook Grainger who also preceded him in death. Mr. Collins originally farmed but later was associated with H. Wade Collins Store & Farms, Cox-Collins Funeral Home, Smith-Collins Funeral Home, and Southeastern Monument Co.
He is survived by two sons Carroll G. Collins of Fairmont, Minnesota and Roderick N. Collins and wife, Martie of Beaufort, SC; two step-children, Becky Evans and husband Barry and Billy Grainger; 4 grandchildren; and several step grandchildren.
Mr. Collins was preceded in death by eight siblings H. Wade Collins, Jr., Richard I. Collins, E. Earl Collins, Daniel S. Collins, Donald B. Collins, Lillian Squires, Fannie Miller, and Vera Sons.
He was a member of the Gapway Baptist Church where he had served as a Sunday School Teacher and Choir/Song Leader.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Gapway Baptist Church with burial in the Collins Family Plot at the church.
