MULLINS - Dan S. Collins, 61, president of Cox Collins Funeral Home, died Saturday. Born in Marion County, he was a son of the late Hampton Wade Sr. and Mrs. Mabeth Elizabeth Williamson Collins. He was the president of Cox Collins Funeral Home of Mullins, president of Southeastern Monument Co., president of Red Hill Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, and secretary treasurer of Smith Collins Funeral Home of Marion.
He was a member of the American Cemetery Association, Monument Builders of North America, the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association and The Nation Funeral Directors Association.
He was a World War II army veteran and member of American Legion Post No. 89. He was on the organizing board of Pineland Country Club and a member and former chairman of Mullins School District Two board of education. He was a deacon and member of Gapway Baptist Church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Loretta Capps Collins; sons, Daniel W. Collins of Mullins and Christopher S. Collins of Houston; brothers, Augustus H. Collins and Donald B. Collins of Mullins; sisters, Mrs. W. H. (Lillian) Squires of Orangeburg, Mrs. George (Vera) Sons of Mullins and Mrs. James E. (Mamie Alice) Caskey Jr. of Lancaster.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Cox Collins Funeral Home Chapel, with entombment in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
