Son of Hampton Wade and Mabeth Elizabeth Williamson Collins, husband of Flora Mae Harrelson.
MULLINS - Hampton Wade Collins Jr., 44, died Thursday afternoon in the Mullins hospital after an illness of a few days. He was a son of the late H. Wade Collins and Mrs. Mabeth Williamson Collins. He was married to the former Flora Mae Harrelson June 5, 1949. He was co-partner of the Cox-Collins Funeral Home and co-partner in charge of operations of the H. Wade Collins Store, farms and grain company. He was a member of the Gapway Baptist Church, of which he was chairman of the board of deacons. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Mullins Hospital and was formerly chairman of the board. He was also a former chairman of the committee of the Farmers Home Administration.
During World War II he served with the 45th Infantry Division in the European Theater. He also served on numerous other boards of the county.
Surviving are his mother; his widow; a son, H. Wade Collins III; five brothers, Dan S. Collins, Don B. Collins, E. Earl Collins, Richard I. Collins and Augustus H. Collins, all of Mullins; and four sisters, Mrs. W. H. Squires and Mrs. George Sons, both of Aynor, Mrs. E. M. Miller of Sumter and Mrs. James E. Caskey of Alexandria, Va.
Funeral services will be held in Gapway Baptist Church Saturday at 4 p.m., the Rev. Earl H. Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Gapway Baptist Cemetery.
The services will be conducted by the old staff of the Cox-Collins Funeral Home, which was formerly the Cox Funeral Home.
