Funeral On Tuesday.
S. B. Gatlin was 26 years old. He had been employed at the Hardwood Lumber company's saw mill in Sandersville. Besides his wife and baby he is survived by three brothers—- Milton and W. S. in Sandersville and Lee Gatlin, of Laurel. He was a member of Breckenridge Masonic Lodge No. 309 in Sandersville and of the Royal Arch Masons in Laurel, and also belonged to the Baptist church in Sandersville, where funeral services were conducted at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.
S. B. Gatlin, shot Monday afternoon at the home of his wife's people in Sandersville, died at 3 o'clock Tuesday, morning. Williamson, his father-in-law, is in jail here charged with the shooting. According to Williamson, Gatlin called at the Williamson home to get his wifes clothing. They had been separated but were recently reunited. Gatlin became involved in an argument with Mrs. Williamson and knocked her down, asserts the prisoner. Williamson interferred and says
he was knocked backward over a trunk, but, according to what the officers report of his statement, 'came up shooting."
Only one shot was fired, from a pistol, the bullet penetrating Gatlin'a breast just below the heart.
Gatlin's relatives assert it was "cold-blooded murder" and that he was shot down when he insisted on getting some of his own property out of the trunk.
Williamson, who is 45 years old, was the town marshal of Sandersville, having taken the oath of office January first. He has a wife and five children, the oldest of whom, Bonnie, being Gatlin's widow.
