He was born Jan. 14, 1902, at Oakfield, a son of Billie B. and Mary May Ward Brookins. On Nov. 18, 1925, h married Hazel L. Weber at Lamartine. The couple was married for 62 years before his wife died in 1988.
Mr. Brookins was a member of Lamartine United Methodist Church. He graduated from Oakfield High School in 1191 and worked as a milk deliverer for 21 years. He retired in 1997 from Giddings & Lewis, where he worked for 25 years.
Mr. Brookins traveled extensively, including Hawaii and Alaska. He was a member of the G & L Staff Club, G. & L Foreman's Club, F & AM Lodge 140 and the Fond du Lac Senior Bowling League. He was a life member of Wescott Sportsman Club and a member of Sunrisers Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include two sons, Howard L. and his wife Anita of Menomonee Falls; and Dale C. and his wife Virginia of Wayne, Pa.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Leah Traxler and her husband David of Fond du Lac; and one half-sister, Bessie Brookins of Sheboygan.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Hazel, on May 16, 1988; five sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mach Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Bradley Green and the Rev. Gordon L. Merritt will officiate, and burial will be in Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery.
