DEATH--MRS. ARTHUR REEF (LYDIA ELIZABETH REEF)
One of the saddest deaths that has occurred in Democrat Township for some time was that of Mrs. Arthur Reef, 23, who succumbed last Wednesday morning at 11:30 at her home about one and one-half miles southwest of Cutler, after only a few day's illness. Death was due to complications following child-birth on Saturday. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the Ball Hill Church, Reverend A.M. Hagenbook of Burlington and Reverend Risen of Bringhurst officiating. Interment was made in the Ball Hill Cemetery.
Lydia Elizabeth McCarthy, the third of eight children that blessed the home of Mr. and Mrs. James McCarty, was born March 23, 1892 on a farm southeast of Bringhurst in Democrat Township. There she grew to young womanhood and seven years ago last February was united in marriage to Arthur Reef. To them were born four children, three surviving. She also leaves the sorrowing husband and parents and the following brothers and sisters: Earl McCarty of west of Bringhurst; Cleo, now in the military service in France; Mrs. Laura Larimore of Arthur, Illinois; Carey, Jimmie, Amy, all at home. She was a member of the Mt. Olivet M.E. Church uniting with it ten years ago.
