J. D. was the son of Rev. Angus D., Sr., and Susan (Locklear) Locklear. He married Alice Brewer on Jan. 20, 1906 in the Burnt Swamp section of Robeson County, North Carolina.

The following was taken from the Jan. 14, 1957 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:

Funeral services for J. D. Locklear, 74, who died yesterday morning at nine o'clock at his home in the Mt. Airy section, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock for the Mt. Airy Baptist church, of which he was a member. The services will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. L. W. Jacobs. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Brewer Locklear; five sons, Stanley, route 4, Lumberton, Grant and Winford, route 1, Pembroke, Dewey of Pembroke, and Sgt. Tommy Locklear, Fort Benning, Ga.; four daughters, Mrs. Luie Locklear, Pembroke, Mrs. Eutie Wilkins, Red Springs, Misses Willie Mae and Susie L. Locklear of the home; two brothers, S. B. and M. H. Locklear, both of route 1, Pembroke; three sisters, Mrs. Duncan Brewer and Mrs. Pearl Cummings both of Pembroke, and Mrs. Jessie Locklear, route 1, Rowland; 35 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

***NOTE: According to his NC death certificate and his THE ROBESONIAN obituary, his death year was 1957, but 1956 is engraved on his headstone..
