James C. Bruce, 70, of Keyser, WV, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.

Born on October 29, 1941 at Medley, WV, he was a son of the late Isaiah "Pete" and Mary Frances (Howard) Bruce. He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Virgil, Henry, Ashton and Milford Bruce and one sister, Evelyn Bruce Thomas.

Mr. Bruce was a 1962 graduate of Petersburg, WV High School and the Mineral County Vocational Technical Center. He was a retired self employed home improvement contractor and also worked for J & J Remodeling in Washington, DC. He was a member of the Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Assembly, Keyser and was an avid fisherman and Washington Redskins football fan. His love in life was helping others, especially the residents at the High-Rise.

Surviving are one son, James C. "J.C." Bruce, Jr. of Petersburg; one daughter, Erica Bruce Harvey and husband Sean of Holly Springs, NC; three brothers, Ernest Bruce of Columbus, OH, Marvin Bruce and wife Cheryl of Mitchellville, MD and Thomas Steven Bruce of Temple Hills, MD; two sisters, Rosa Hollingsworth and Frances Mabin and husband Raymond, all of Keyser and three grandchildren, Eric and Kaitlyn Bruce and Rashaan Harvey. Also surviving are his very special friend, Eleanor McFarland of Keyser and her children and grandchildren who took care of him especially during the last three years of his life and of whom Jim was very fond; a special niece who cared for him faithfully, Kathy Bruce Jenkins of Keyser; his former wife, Gretchen Bruce of Petersburg; a special sister-in-law, Margo Bruce; his extended High-Rise family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, May 25, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Assembly, Newton Street, Keyser, on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Darin Allen, Rev. Donna Leatherman and Rev. Randy Leatherman officiating. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

The family would like to thank both the staff of Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home and Mountain Hospice for their excellent, compassionate care of Mr. Bruce.
