Virgil Dean Bruce, 85, formerly of Philadelphia and Keyser, died Nov. 16, at Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton, Md. after a long illness.

Born May 22, 1920, at Williamsport, he was the son of the late Isaiah and Mary Frances Bruce. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Geraldine (Hollingsworth) Bruce in 1986; his second wife, Barbara Oree in 2004; one sister, Evelyn (Bruce) Thomas; and one brother, Ashton Leon Bruce.

Surviving are one son, Lester Hollingsworth; six brothers, Henry Bruce, Milford Bruce, Marvin Bruce, Ernest Bruce, Jim Bruce and Thomas Bruce; two sisters, Rose Hollingsworth and Frances Mabin; one granddaughter, Leslie Hollingsworth; one great-granddaughter, Eryka; stepson, Robert Byers; niece Amina Davis; and stepgranddaughter Barbara Byers.

Funeral services were held at the Smith funeral home, Nov. 26.
