She married Reuben Alexander Short on 8 Jan 1922 in Callahan County Texas.
They had one child Ben Elroy Short who was born Jan 1930 just 9 months before the tragic death of his Father, who had been working as a Fireman for the 'Texas and Pacific' Train Company, and who, on the 12th of Oct 1930, was working on the #10 'fast' Eastbound train which crashed while rounding a bend heading into Eagleford about 6 miles East of Dallas. In the ensuing derailment he was killed instantly.
After the passing of her first husband Ida later married John 'Johnny' Henry Kemp in 1952 where they honeymooned on a cruise to Honolulu and returned Jan 15 1953 to San Francisco. He had also worked for T & P and was a retired Railway Conductor. They lived in Fort Worth until his death in 1959.
