Elva was the first born to her parents and shown to the right in a 1904 photograph with her sister Ida Inez Purvis. In 1923 Elva Purvis married Edgar 'Buck' Smith in Abilene, Taylor County, Texas, USA. The marriage license was granted the 13 Jun 1923 and marriage by Rev Williams on the 14 Jun 1923.

After Buck's passing 25 Nov 1962 she married Claude Marion Morse who sadly passed just a few years later in 1967. Claude had also been previously married to Maud Johnson who passed in 1931.

Elva, much loved by family, lived next to Bell Park in Baird Texas her whole life. This was a location of many family reunions through her life, and she worked for the US Postal service for many years. She passed in the Harris Hospital of Fort Worth after a 5½ week stay
