Arthur Dudley Franklin Augusta Purvis was born June 3, 1881, in Randal Township, Cleveland County, Arkansas.

His family moved to the Atwell Community in 1884. It was there that he met Lula Belle Clark, daughter of J.J. and Bettie Clark. On June 30, 1901, A.D. Purvis age twenty and Lula Belle Clark, age sixteen were married. To say that J.J. was unhappy with the marriage would be putting it mildly because the threats were many and deadly but the wedded couple won him over very quickly. Six children were born at Atwell, Callahan County, Elva Lena, Sep 3, 1902; Ida Inez, Nov 6, 1903; James Clarence, Aug 10, 1905; Arlynn Leroy, Aug 28, 1907; Eldon Clark, May 16, 1909; Gladys Daisy, Aug 28, 1911.

The family then moved to the Bayou Community, Callahan County, south of Baird. Walter Arthur was born Jan 24, 1913. In 1914 they moved to the J.J. Clark farm three miles west of Putnam, later they moved into Putnam. This is where Lillian Evelyn was born May 17, 1915. Dovie Adeline was born Apr 2, 1918, the year so many people died with the flu and pneumonia. We moved behind Cooks garage which was a landmark in Putnam and was owned by Louis Cook.

My mother Lula was running the telephone office which was owned by the Bearden family in Baird. Dad was off to the Ranger Oilfield during the Ranger boom but came back and worked for Sam Yeager who was County Commissioner for many years. He also ran the cotton gin as he was very good with any kind of machinery.

Blanche Campbell was born Feb 7, 1920. The school year of 1921 they lived in Moran and moved back to Putnam the following year. They moved to Cisco in 1925. Clarence or "Tiny" was playing football with the Loboes in 1925 and A.L. finished in 1927. Floyd Elsworth was born Dec 1, 1925. Dad was working in the oil fields out of Cisco and Moran. I left school at Abilene Christian and went to work for Texas Pacific Coal and Oil Company in Fort Worth, Jan 1, 1930. I moved all of the family to Fort Worth in 1932. They lived in Fort Worth until the middle forties and moved to Texas City and was there when the Monsanto plant blew up, none of the family was killed. They moved back to Fort Worth about 1953 and Lula Belle died in 1956. Dad lived with us about three years and moved back to Baird to live with Elva and Edgar Smith. He passed away Feb 5, 1965 at age eighty-four.

Elva married Edgar Smith and had no children. Elva then married Claude Morse. Inez married Reuben Short, they had one child, Ben Elroy. Clarence married Serena Sorrell Swagerty, they had two children, Pat and Barbara. Leroy married Mary A. Earnest, they had one child, Arlynn Elroy. Eldon married Elwynn Atkinson, they did not have any children. Gladys married R. W. Hardin, they had one child, Janice Lillian (adopted). Walter married Georgia P. Burgess, they had two children, Pamela and Paula (adopted). Lillian married Neal Branch, they did not have any children. Blanche married Carl Farris having one child, Frances Margo. She then married B. L. Vines having three children, Priscilla, Robert, and Dudley. Floyd E. married Sara M. Dishman, having two children, Sharon and Gary. He then married Claudia N. Sanford.
