from a local newspaper:

He had many years to his credit being born on the 24th day of January, 1858, and departing this life on the 2nd day of April, 1941, his age being 83 years, 2 months, and 8 days. Ove was born near Stenkjer, Throndjem, Norway, and his parents were Ole and Annie Aasum. There were seven other children in the family, who all came to America. It appears that the parents came first and the children later, when a home had been provided for them. Ove came in 1867, when but nine years old.

All of Ove's brothers and sisters except Mrs. Beret Klegseth of Hesper, Iowa, preceded him in death, leaving Mrs. Klegseth as the lone survivor of the original Aasum family. Being baptized as a child in the home parish in Stenkjer, Norway, he received instruction in the Christian religion after coming here, in the class of the Rev. H.A. Stub, and by him he was confirmed in the Hesper church, with which church he has been affiliated as a communicant member until the day of his death, a period of some 70 years. In 1893 Mr. Ove Aasum was joined in marriage to Miss Mary Benson of Riceford.

The following children were born to them; Grant Aasum, at home; Judene Aasum, Hesper; Bennie Aasum at home; Blanch (Mrs. Kenneth Storlie), Spring Grove; Stella (Mrs. Harry Lommen), Spring Grove; Minnie (Mrs. Gilman Myrah), Spring Grove, and Melvin.

Funeral services were conducted at the Hesper Lutheran church, Hesper, IA. Interment was in the church cemetery.
