Mabel Record, 24 Jan, 1941:

Mary Aasum was born on the 4th day of Feb. 1867, at Sigdahl Parish, Norway. While Mary was but an infant, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benson, came to America and remained a while in Kilburn county, WI. Later they made a permanent settlement on a farm near Riceford, Houston, county, MN, and here Mary lived her years of childhood and youth. Here she attended school and the pastor's class and was confirmed by Rev. Jensen in April, 1883. Ten years later, on the 7th of March, 1893, she was joined in marriage to Mr. Ove Aasum, and with him she has lived a successful and blessed married life on a farm, one mile south and one mile east of Mabel, MN, until her demise, 10 January, 1941.

The following children were born to them: James Aasum, Hesper, IA; Grant Aasum, at home; Judene Aasum, Hesper; Bennie Aasum, at home; Blanch (Mrs. Kenneth Storlie), Spring Grove; Minnie (Mrs. Gilman Myrah), Spring Grove; Stella (Mrs. Harry Lommen) Spring Grove; and Melvin Aasum, at home There are also 18 grand children. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Jan, 14th 1941, at the home and at the Hesper Lutheran church, by Rev. Oscar Mikkelson of Spring Grove. Interment at the Hesper Lutheran cemetery.
