Scott (my paternal grandfather) was a son of Lafayette and Alice Louisiana Love Alcorn and had 6 siblings: Lola, Roy, Clyde, Ora, Myrtle and Charles.

Scott married Delia Ann Box on June 3, 1911 and they had 9 children: Mildred Pauline (b. 1912), Cecil Clyde (b. 1915), Percy Eugene (b. 1917), Ernest Merton (b. 1920), Scottie Lafayette (b. 1923), Roy Anvil (b. 1925), Walter Ray (b. 1928), Donald Lee (b. 1931) and Billy Joe (b. 1934). The family lived in Ellsinore, MO.

Grandpa was very entrepreneurial, co-owned the Ellsinore Mercantile Company with his father in 1915 until it burned in 1924 and was also involved in various other businesses in Southern MO during his earlier years. He was connected to the Bank of Ellsinore and in 1918 he was unfortunately suspected of being involved in a robbery of that bank even though never formally charged.

I know very little about his latter years, but my dad said he visited him in the hospital shortly before his death, and Grandpa seemed to make peace with his life before dying.

Grandpa's obituary appeared in 3-28-1946 edition of The Current Local, Van Buren, Carter Co., MO. on the front page (used with permission).

"Funeral services for Scott Alcorn, age 54, who died March 21st, at the Lucy Lee Hospital in Poplar Bluff, were conducted here Saturday afternoon at the Methodist Church by Rev. H. C. Whitcanack, assisted by Rev. C. A. Love, and interment took place in the Henson Cemetery.

Scott was born at Belgrade, Mo., but moved to Ellsinore with his parents when a young boy. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dealia (Delia) Alcorn, one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Magill of Cheyenne, WY, eight sons, Cecil of Williamsville, Percy of Carlinville, IL, Merton and Scottie of Poplar Bluff, Roy, with the U.S. Army in Germany, Walter, Donald and Billy Joe of Ellsinore; one sister, Mrs. Lola Buntin of Grandin, one brother, Roy Alcorn of Fredericktown and his aged father L. (Lafayette) Alcorn, of Grandin. All the above named relatives were present at the funeral except the son who is still overseas and Scott's father who was unable to attend because of illness.

That Scott was well known and had many friends was attested by the unusually large crowd that attended his funeral Saturday. Pall bearers were five of his sons, Cecil, Percy, Merton, Scottie and Walter, and one nephew, Dennis Alcorn. The Frank-Cottrell undertakers of Poplar Bluff were in charge."
