Lola, my paternal great-aunt, was the eldest child of Lafayette and Alice Louisiana Love Alcorn. She had 6 siblings: Roy Anvil Alcorn (1887-1962), Clyde S. (1889-1939), Scott Lee (1891-1946), Ora (1893-1908), Myrtle (died as either an infant or toddler), and Charles Loven (1898-1899).

Great-Aunt Lola and James "Jim" Virgil Buntin were married on October 16, 1916 in Ellsinore, Carter Co., MO by Rev. T. B. Medler. Unfortunately they had no children. I fondly remember visiting them often with my parents and other siblings and they were so welcoming and loving to all of us. I believe they would have made fantastic parents.

An article about their wedding was published in the 10-19-1916 edition of The Current Local, Van Buren, Carter Co., MO on the front page under "Ellsinore Echoes" (used with permission).

"MARRIED--At the home of the bride's parents on Monday, October 16, Mr. James Bunton [sic] (Buntin) and Miss Lola Alcorn. The groom is a substantial young farmer of near Grandin and the bride is the daughter of L. Alcorn, manager of the Ellsinore Mercantile Company. She is well known in this community having been one of the county's popular teachers and for two years a member of the Ellsinore school faculty. During the past two years she has held the position of postmistress at this place, being succeeded by W. D. Ham following her resignation. We join with their many friends in wishing them much happiness. They left Monday for Grandin where they will make their future home."

An article about their 50th wedding anniversary was published in the 10-20-1966 edition of The Current Local under "Ellsinore News" (written by Glen Kingen of Ellsinore):

"Sunday afternoon Mrs. Kingen and myself and Mrs. J. E. Long and Mrs. Helen Koerner drove over to Grandin to visit briefly with Mr. and Mrs. James Buntin, and help them observe their 50th wedding anniversary, which they were doing with not much fanfare. They enjoyed several friends coming in to see them during the past weekend.

Jim Buntin of Grandin and Miss Lola Alcorn of Ellsinore were married Oct. 16th, 1916 at the home of the bride's parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. L. Alcorn in Ellsinore. The officiating minister was the Methodist pastor here at the time, Rev. O. A. Meddler (on the actual marriage license it was Rev. T. B. Medler). So far as we know the only people living now who were at the wedding 50 years ago are Mrs. Margaret Alcorn in Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Anna (Wilson) Long at Ellsinore.

Mrs. Buntin has been in rather poor health recently, but we all enjoyed the afternoon talking of bygone days, and especially the school days when we (that is Mrs. Buntin, Mrs. Long, Mrs. Kingen and of course yours truly) were in school together around the years of 1907 and 1908. Mr. and Mrs. Buntin are now living on the farm where Jim has spent most of his long life, and it is interesting to talk with him about the big sawmill days at Grandin, which he remembered so well. Jim has a remarakable memory and anyone wishing to hear of the bygone days at Grandin would enjoy talking with him."

Lola's obituary was published in the 4-11-1968 edition of The Current Local on the front page.
