Gerda A. Hall, age 88, of Menomonie, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at the Area Nursing Home in Colfax.
The former Gerda Amelia Behrents was born Oct. 31, 1913, in Mandal, Norway, to Govert and Amelia (Opsal) Behrents. When a small child she moved with her family to Milan, MN, and later to the Little Elk Creek area near Menomonie. She attended Little Elk Creek Grade School and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1937.
Gerda married Thomas Hall on June 26, 1937, in Menomonie. They moved to Milwaukee were Gerda worked as a seamstress for Fontaine's and at Johnston Cookie Co. For many years she also did child care in her home, sometimes for as many as 13 children at once. After her husband's death in 1982, Gerda moved back to Cedar Falls near Menomonie.
Gerda was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, a sewing club, and Babies Aid in Milwaukee. When she moved back to Menomonie, she belonged to the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and Bible Study.
Gerda sewed for her family all of her life and enjoyed the Stitch and Chatter group she belonged to.
Gerda is survived by her son; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters, Norman (Lorraine) Behrents, Helen (Ted) Olechno and Alice (Arnie) Hovind, all of Menomonie; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. [Living names removed for privacy.]
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas; three sisters, Jennie Kistner, Borghild Espland and Olga Thorud; one brother, Einar Behrents; and her daughter and husband, Jane (Gene) Fritz.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at the Menomonie Alliance Church with the Rev. Jack Stimmel officiating. Burial is 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2002, in Good Hope Cemetery in Milwaukee.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Sunday) at the Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Menomonie Alliance Church.
