Helen was born May 20, 1919, in Milan, Minn., to Govert and Amelia Behrents.
In her early years, Helen moved to Chicago to work, where she met her husband, Ted. They were married for 70 years.
In 1977, after retirement she and Ted moved to Menomonie, her family's hometown of many years.
Through the years, Helen enjoyed fishing, her "bridge (fishing) parties" and taking kids on "get lost trips." She always managed a hot, hot-dog lunch from the car.
Sundays found her in the foyer of the Alliance Church with her candy bag open for all kids and an occasional adult. Years of friendships developed with her loving each and every one.
Helen is survived by her husband, Ted; two daughters, Judy Head and Peggy Robertson; and a sister, Alice Hovind, all of Menomonie; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Govert and Amelia Behrents; two brothers; four sisters; three special cousins and one grandson.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, with Pastor Robert Koepp officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
All monetary memorials will be used in Helen's memory. No flowers please.
