Copsley, 79, well known resident of Plymouth County since early youth, died in a hospital at Long Beach, CA, following a stroke. Copsley left Le Mars two years ago to live in California.

Copsley was born the son of John Woodcock & Ann Stevens Clarke. They came to Plymouth County in the late seventies.

Cop engaged in farming and while living in Union Township was married to Elizabeth Maud Gannon on December 6, 1888. They farmed in Union until 1903 when they moved to Le Mars. For many years Cop was an auctioneer and earned a wide reputation in northwest Iowa in his profession, being a good judge of stock and farm values.

Cop & Lizzie later moved to Worthington, MN, and farmed there for several years. In 1919 they moved back to Le Mars where Cop served as city assessor for several terms and later was elected justice of the peace. Lizzie passed away in 1924.

Copsley & Lizzie are the parents of Florence (Donald) De Pree, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Wernli, Mabel (Clarence) Wright,Luella Clarke, Harry Clarke, Melvin Clarke, Russell Clarke, and Ray Clarke.

Copsley's siblings include Mary Hogg of Salem, OR; Zoe Edwards of Auburn, CA; Josephine Holmes of Stockton,CA; Phyllis Hogg, Frank Clarke, Belle Hoyt, Wren Clarke, & John Clarke.

The funeral will be held this Tuesday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Glen E. Morrow officiating.
