Robert W. Kyea, 63, of Hazen Road, Au Sable Forks, New York, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 19, 2005, while under the care of High Peaks Hospice.

He was born February 5, 1941, in Au Sable Forks, the son of Jerry and Marie (Sawyer) Kyea.

He graduated from Au Sable Forks Central School in 1959. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962 during the Vietnam Era and received an honorable discharge. He worked 39 years at the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Keeseville, and retired in 1998 where many friendships were made. He was very active in his community. He belonged to the American Legion and was a life member of Medos A. Nelson Post 504 in Au Sable Forks, were he was Post Commander from 1983 to 1985, 1991 to 1992 and 2003 to 2004. He was Legionnaire of the year in 1989 to 1990, 1998 to 1999 and Clinton County Commander in 1989 to 1990. He was also a member of the B.P.O.E Lodge 2072 in Keeseville. He was a member of the Au Sable Forks Fastpitch Association first as a player and then as an Officer of the Association. The annual tournament held in July 1986, was dedicated to him. He enjoyed playing basketball and was a member of Meconi's XL's of the Au Sable Forks League. He was also active in the Au Sable Forks Spirits Baseball team of the Champlain Valley baseball league in the 1970's, 1980's and early 1990's. He enjoyed bobsledding, bowling, golf and a avid fan of the NY Yankees and NY Giants as well as the NY Knicks.

He was survived by his wife, Peggy (Hazen) Kyea; they were married May 15, 1965; his son, Chris; his daughter, Kathy and her companion James Parker; and two grandchildren, Brody and Bryce; three brothers, Floyd, Marvin and his wife Pam all of Au Sable Forks, Paul and his wife Carolyn of Plattsburgh, New York; three sisters, Virginia Wray of Vestal, New York, Gertrude Klubertanz of Rochester, New York, and Alariene Kyea of Queensbury, New York; two sister-in-laws, Gail Kyea of Plattsburgh and Donna Kyea of Au Sable Forks; and many nieces and nephews; and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; one sister, Charlotte; three brothers, Wallace, Leonard and Roger.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday, January 22, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Au Sable Forks. Burial was in Central Cemetery in Jay, New York.
