James Kirby, 80, for 35 years a resident of Urbana and formerly of Homer and Sidney, was found dead in a chair in his home, 506 ½ North Cunningham road, at 4 p.m. Monday.
He was found sitting in his chair, and was dead by the time Urbana police arrived after a call for aid. The death was thought caused by heart failure and old age.
A retired laborer, Mr. Kirby came to Urbana from Homer 35 years ago, and was engaged as a laborer until 1925, when he retired at the age of 68.
He was born Oct. 8, 1857, in Iowa, son of Joshua and Fannie Crabtree Kirby. When ten years old he came to live in the county with his family, later moving to Urbana.
Although funeral arrangements have not been made, he will be buried in the Homer cemetery.
Twice married, Mr. Kirby was the father of the two sons and three daughters, and stepfather of another daughter.
Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Harriet Moorehead Kirby, and his children, all of Urbana, Joseph, Howard, Mrs. Susan Towner, Mrs. Nellie Cloud, Mrs. Ollie Grobbs, and Mrs. Anna Cochrane, his step-daughter.
