Mary was born in the Saluda area of Edgefield County, South Carolina. This area did not become Saluda County until 1896. So at the time of her birth, she was born in Edgefield County but today, it is Saluda County. She was the first born of eleven known siblings.

According to the 1900 Census, she married Willie Forrest in 1890 but the 1910 Census indicates 1888 as the year. By 1900 Census, they had had three children and all were alive. By the 1910 Census, they had had five children and only four were alive at that time. The 1900 Census had enumerated Cloe Irene and she died shortly thereafter.

From the censuses and other documents, she was a lifelong resident of the Saluda section.

The known children of Mary and Will were: James Grigsby "Gregg" (1890–1974), Cally Buster (1893–1985), Cloe Irene (1898–1901), Mary Oleit (1902–1966), and Willie Colin (1906–1962)

No obituary or newspaper announcement of her death has been found to date.
