Funeral services for "J. R." John Robert Shipley Sr., 76 of Winnsboro, LA will be held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 3:00 pm with Rev. George Bates and Rev. Leon Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Ogden Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial.

J. R. Shipley was born on March 19, 1935 in Winnsboro, LA and passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Rapides Regional Medical Center. He had been a bail bondsman for 46 years and owner/operator of The Goldmine Club for 20 plus years. Previously he had worked on the pipeline and oil field and for the State of Louisiana Dept of Transporation. Mr. Shipley served his country in the U. S. Air Force.

J. R. Shipley loved Basketball and Football. He had played basketball for L. S. U. during his college years. He enjoyed going to the local auctions and giving the items away to friends. He never passed up an opportunity to support schools, churches, and charitable contributions. He gave from his heart! He loved visiting at the Franklin Parish Courthouse and enjoyed rabbit hunting and attending sports activities. He lived life to the fullest.

He was preceded in death by:
Parents-Oscar and Alma (Tarver) Shipley
Wife-Gerrie (Keith) Shipley
Brother-C. L. Shipley
4 Sisters-Louise Hilburn, Merle Howard, Elsie Barton, and Mary Bell Pipins.

Survivors include:
His Daughter-Velvet Shipley of Winnsboro, LA
Son-John "Bubba" Shipley and wife Pam of Winnsboro, LA
5 Grandchildren-Chris Armstrong, Jamie Lee Armstrong, Seth Scriber, Kaci Hodges, and Kassie Shipley
2 Great-Grandchildren-Hayden Lee Armstrong and Brailee Guillot
and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

The Pallbearers will be Gene King, Johnny Booth, Ken Brockner, Kevin Cobb, Larry Crum, Mike Kramer and Steve Pylant.

The Honorary Pallbearers will be -Bubba Smith, Buddy Wright, Charles Brass, Charles Currington, Donnie Easterling, Eugene Parker, Ronnie Temple, Russell Brass, Russell Etheridge and Sidney Bell.
