ARLINGTON - Robert L. Hilchey, 82, formerly of Bennington, died July 26, 2010, at his residence, following a brief illness.
He was born in Bennington Feb. 12, 1928, the son of Walter and Freda (Baker) Hilchey, and received his education locally.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Hilchey married Shirley Thompson of Bondville Aug. 24, 1950.
In earlier years, he was employed at Polygraphic, UST and Marty Moores Greenhouse. He also owned and operated Hilchey's Courier Service with his wife.
He enjoyed traveling, riding his yellow moped and maintaining the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include his wife of Arlington; their children, Gary Hilchey of Bennington, Lynn Dupuis of Wilmington, Sandi Hagadorn of Cambridge, N.Y., Glenn Hilchey of Lexington, N.C., Wendi McCauley of Arlington and Chris Hilchey of North Adams, Mass.; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Hilchey was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Welch and Adelaide Fraser; three brothers, Ronald Morse, Walt and Steve Hilchey; and three grandchildren.
The celebration of his life was held Thursday, July 29, at the family home in Arlington.
