Jacob Hoek was born in March 1821 in the country village Ursem, in the midnorthern part of the Dutch western province Noord-Holland, son of the 30 years old watermiller (watermolenaar) Bankeris Hoek and Trijntje Swart.

On March 1, 1851 the 29 years old laborer Jacob Hoek, son of watermiller Bankeris Hoek and Trijntje Swart, married in his birthplace Ursem, Noord-Holland the 6 years younger Maartje Houtkoper, born in Zuid- en Noord-Schermer, Noord-Holland, daughter of Dirk Houtkoper and Cornelia Rijke.

In June 1851 their son Bankras was born, in June 1853 in Ursem daughter Trijntje and on 11 October 1854 in Ursem too son Dirk, who he died there too on 27 March 1855.
Their father Jacob Hoek was in June 1853, October 1854 and March 1855 a watermiller.

On June 11, 1855 Jacob Hoek (34 y, loafer = werkloze (?), his wife Maartje Houtkoop (29) and their children Bankras (3) and Trijntje (2) arrived on the schooner Tarolinta at the port of New York, Castle Garden.

In 1860 Jacob Hock (39 yeas old) lived with his wife Mary (33) and children Bancrage (9), Cathar (7), Dirk (3), Wm (2) and Cornelius (6 months) in the Township of Worth, post office Blue Island, Cook County, Illinois, just south of Chicago, northwest of Thornton Township and west of Calumet Township.

In June 1870 Jacob Hook (49 y, born in Holland, farmer), his wife Mary (43, Holland), their children Catharine (17, Holland), Dorrick [Derrick, Richard] (14, Illinois), William (11, Illinois), Cornelius (10, Illinois), Peter (9, Illinois), Simon (7, Illinois), Cornelia (3, Illinois) and Jacob (0, Illinois) lived at a rented home in Calumet Township, Cook County, Illinois, just southeast of Chicago. Next to them lived the 37 years aged laborer Ary Houtcoper with his wife and three daughters. Arie is a brother of Mary Houtkoper Hook.

His wife Mary died in January 1896 at the age of 69 years in the village of Lansing, nowadays a southern suburb of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

In June 1900 Jacob Hook (79) lived with his granddaughter Mary Hook (28, servant) at an own house in North Township, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana. Next to them his son Wiliam (40, farmer) lived with his wife and four children.
