Medrith was born January 14, 1912, in Pike County, Ind., the daughter of Joseph S. and Lee Etta (Luttrull) Richards. She worked at HJ Heinz Company in Muscatine for over 25 years, retiring in 1977.
She enjoyed yard work, gardening, puzzles of all kind, collecting elephant figurines, traveling overseas and watching the Gospel Christian channel on TV. Medrith was also a devoted Hoosier fan, enjoyed watching Two and a Half Men and had never missed a Wheel of Fortune episode since it first aired.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Dale (Laura) Bird; Jerry (Valli) Bird, all of Montpelier, Iowa; Carol Soteros, Muscatine, Iowa, and Judith (Jerry) Tucker, Montpelier; 27 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 34 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Loveda Cargal, Worthington, Ind.
She was preceded in death by sons, Edgar, Marvin and Joseph "Bing" Bird; daughters, Jeanette Peck and Karen Sue Bird; brothers, Carl, Delbert and William Robert Richards; and sisters, Regina Hacker, Mary Petersen and Leonarda Myers.
