Edgar T. Bird, 66, 0f 1868 Stagecoach Lane, Montpelier, died Wednesday, May 21, 1997, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Services will be Saturday at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo.-

He was born April 11, 1931, at Lone Tree, the son of Tony A. and Medrith Richards-Bird. On Jan. 20, 1951, he married Mae Arlene Eis in Muscatine.

He was a melt supervisor and had worked for 18 years at Rock Island Arsenal, where he won an award for sustained superior performance. Previously, he had worked at the Frank Foundries Corp. at Davenport.

Survivors include his wife; and two daughters, Sherry and her husband Gary Ball of Davenport and Cindy and her husband Michael Adams of LeClaire; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Medrith Messinger of Montpelier; three sisters, Janette Peck of Montpelier, Carol Sateros of Muscatine, Judy Trucker of Montpelier; and three brothers, Marvin of rural Davenport, Dale of Montpelier and Jerry of Montpelier.
