Mrs. Annie S. Poland, 72-year-old well-known pioneer resident of the Kittitas Valley, died yesterday at the Valley General Hospital. Mrs. Poland was born at Tumwater on July 22, 1878, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Sayles. In 1889 the family moved to Ellensburg where Mrs. Poland has resided ever since, except for a few years spent at Auburn.

On November 4, 1894, she was married to Clarence Poland who preceded her in death in 1948. Mrs. Poland was a life-long member of the Ellensburg First Presbyterian Church, an honorary member of the Presbyterian Ladies Aid Society and a past president of the Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter here.

Mrs. Poland is survived by a son, Chester Poland and a daughter, Mrs. Nina Page, both of Ellensburg; two brothers Roy Sayles of Coupeville, and Chester Sayles of San Francisco; a sister, Mrs. Alta Newman of Seattle; a sister-in-law, Mrs. George Sales of Ellensburg; six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Honeycutt-Evenson Funeral Home with Rev. Philip Coen officiating. Interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery.
