Joseph H. Everman was a twin to Juliet Sinclair Everman. He married in Putman County, Indiana on September 5, 1847 to Martha Ann McGaughey, the daughter of John C. McGaughey and Polly Boyd. Martha Ann was born October 20, 1826. Joseph and Martha Ann settled in Keokuk County, Iowa, where Martha Ann died, August 27, 1855 and Joseph Everman on November 22, 1857; both of Cholera. After the death of Martha and Joseph, their three children were raised by Andrew McGahey and his wife.

John McGahey and Andrew Everman signed the marriage license in Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana.
