Benedict's (Ben) birth years vary as the The church records show Sept. 29, 1876, his death certificate shows Sept. 28, 1877, and the tombstone has 1878.
Ben was very young when his mother died February 3, 1878.
Ben's father remarried in 1880 and as the family grew, Ben and his brother Joe fixed up a room in the barn for themselves.
Benedict (Ben) was a farmer and after marrying Johanna Alfers on May 17, 1910, they purchased and lived on a farm about three miles north of where he grew up. Besides farming, he loved to fish.

BEN PAULY DIES
Benedict M. Pauly, 63 of the Huron community, died at a Horton hospital yesterday. He was born in Doniphan county and was a life-long resident of northeast Kansas.
The rosary will be recited at the residence at 8:30 o'clock this evening. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Sunday) at St. Mary's church in Purcell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Johanna Pauly; a daughter, Miss Anna Pauly, Denver, Colo.; two sons, Gerald and John Pauly, Huron, and three grandchildren.
