Our community was shocked and saddened on Monday by the announcement of the death of William H Baily, which occurred at Ocean Grove, New Jersey on Sabbath. Mr. Baily and his wife and son, Henry, had left Waynesburg for Ocean Grove on Tuesday of last week. Although recently suffering from pneumonia, the cause of Mr. Baily's death was heart failure.

The deceased was born in Fayette County, PA, Dec 18, 1853 and two years later his father, the late Ellis Baily, deceased, removed with his family to Greene county. William H Baily was the eldest son and after receiving his education devoted his life to farming and stock raising in which he was very successful.

Subsequently he realized large profits upon investments in coal and real estate. He was a stockholder in the Carmichaels Telephone Co and the Greene County Telephone Company and was the treasurer at the time of his death. He was also a director in the Farmers and Drovers Bank. In politics he was a Republican. He was a member of the Presbyterian church at Carmichaels and later in Waynesburg.

On Thanksgiving Day 1877 he was united in marriage to Miss Ella, daughter of Heaton Luse, deceased of Carmichaels. This union was blessed with four children, three of whom are surviving: Miss Jennie Baily, a teacher in Waynesburg College, Ellis Baily of Pittsburg and Henry, at home. One daughter, Anna died here. Besides his wife and children, five brothers and one sister survive: J Ewing Baily, J Edgar Baily, George E Baily, Mrs. Anna Luse, wife of George Luse, Eli G and R L Baily all of Carmichaels.

The remains were taken to Carmichaels Wednesday morning, where funeral services were held at 11 o'clock in the Presbyterian church by Rev McCool assisted by Rev Hamilton. Interment made in the Carmichaels cemetery.
