In memory of Mrs. Fanny Hawkins, daughter of Ellis B. Baily, and wife of Thomas H. Hawkins of Carmichaels, Pa., who died July 10th, '89 in the 39th year of her age. At an early period of her life, Mrs. Hawkins became interested on the subject of personal religion at a series of meetings held in New Providence Presbyterian church in the winter of 1868. With many others she then professed consecration of herself to Him and united with the church. Mrs. Hawkins was a lady of amiable disposition and pleasing address much esteemed by her neighbors and acquaintances. She was a member of the ladies missionary society and a regular worshiper in the house of God, when health permitted. Happy in her domestic relations, she became the mother of three children, one of whom, Emma C., some years ago preceded her mother in reaching the home beyond. For some three months the deceased was the subject of decline. But during the time evinced and expressed submission to the will of her Heavenly Father and only wished to live for the sake of others who were near and dear to her. She greatly desired and appreciated the presence of her pastor and was comforted and cheered by the precious promises that were rehearsed in her hearing, and by the devotional exercises which the occasion and circumstances called for. Relying on the finished work and merits of the Savior and committing herself and loved ones to Him she died in the sweet hope of the gospel and of the resurrection of the just. In the absence of her pastor, who was himself unwell at the time, the funeral services were conducted by his son, Rev. J. C. McClintock, D.D. after which her remains were followed to the cemetery by a large procession of friends and neighbors. J.L.H.
