Richard Lloyd Baily, aged 76 years, of Carmichaels, one of the most widely known and highly respected citizens of eastern Greene County, died Wednesday morning December 1, in the Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. Mr. Baily had undergone an operation there last week.

He was a son of the late Ellis B. Baily and Harriet Gaddis Baily, and was born in the family homestead near Carmichaels, December 29, 1866. Mr. Baily's ancestors were among the earliest settlers in Greene County. He was a successful farmer and stockman and had resided in Cumberland Township all his life. Mr. Baily had united with the Presbyterian Church in Carmichaels April 15, 1883, and had been a faithful, loyal and active christian worker since that time. He was especially active in Sunday School work and a Bible Class in the church which bears his name. He was ordained an elder in the church January 12, 1908, and had served since that time. He had been a member of the I.O.O.F. for many years and had also served as treasuer of the Greene County Fair Association.

Mr. Baily was twice married, his first wife was Miss Bessie Mitchner, a teacher in the Carmichaels schools, to whom he was married September 29, 1897. Her death occurred September 22, 1906. On November 24, 1910, Thanksgiving Day, Mr. Baily was united in marriage with Margaret Blair Rea, widow of Rev. Calvin W. Rea of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Ruth Mitchner Baily, an instructor in the Plainfield New Jersery High School; Mrs. Helen Baily Love, wife of William J. Love of Kent, Ohio; Mary Jane Baily of Ohio; and one step-daughter, Mrs. Katherine Rea Baer of Uniontown; also the following grandchildren: Robert Carlton Baer, United States Army Air Force; Joseph Ray Baer, aviation cadet; Ruth Ann and James Love of Kent, Ohio; also one sister, Mrs. George F. Luse; and one brother, Eli G. Baily of Carmichaels.
