James Donald Poynter born January 23, 1942 went home to be with the Lord on Friday November 25, 2011.
He was born in Rockcastle County to the late Laney and Agnes (Lambert) Poynter. He was a farmer and retired from Sherwin Williams Company, and member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Trustee.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Mary Ruth (Day) Poynter, two sons Donald Ray (Belinda) Poynter, Glen (Sharon) Poynter, one daughter Cathy (Scott) Wall, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. He also leaves behind five brothers.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by four brothers.
Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday November 30, 2011 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Mark McGuire and Bro. Neal Prather officiating. Burial will follow in the Robinson Cemetery in Cartersville. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-9 pm at Lakes Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Wendell Combs, Jim Keeton, Jarvis Martin, Lowell Moore, Jr. Rogers and Lewis Dean Reynolds. Honorary bearers will be Larry Chrisman, Red Bolton, Charles Sparks and Joseph Layton.
In lieu of flowers family request any donations be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, in care of the Treasurer Don Poynter, 846 Dreyfus Road, Berea, KY 40403.
