George A. Poynter, 78, of Richmond, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Baptist Health Hospital – Lexington.
He was born in the Boone community of Rockcastle County on May 16, 1939 to the late Laney and Agnes Lambert Poynter. He was a self-employed dental technician. Mr. Poynter enjoyed spending time in his garden raising vegetables, but he also loved to sow the seeds of love and generosity to everyone who came into his life. Mr. Poynter was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church of Conway, and the Calvary Baptist Church in Richmond.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Wilma J. Poynter; one son, Mark Poynter (Julia); one daughter, Sharon Poynter (Denise Shook); two brothers, Russell Poynter and David Poynter (Shirley); two grandchildren, Kellis Poynter and Spencer Poynter; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Poynter was preceded in death by: seven brothers, Warren, Marion, Robert, Delbert, Laney Jr., and Donald Poynter, and Clay Osborne; and a special mother-in-law, Agnes Good.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., with Bro. Bobby Greene and Rev. Vaughn Rasor officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
